Espresso is prepared by forcing pressurised steam through finely ground coffee beans. There are two types of coffee bean, Arabica, this is the most flavourful coffee, this grows in high altitudes and is used in most coffee places around the world. The second is Robusta, this is a bitter coffee bean, this grows in low altitudes. Our coffee is a mixture of the two beans, with a ratio of 6 Arabica to 1 Robusta.

All of the drinks on the Mighty Oaks cart are made using espresso, this is the heart to all of our drinks apart from hot chocolate and tea. Our coffee is also 100% Rainforest Alliance and is donated to us by another local Morpeth Business.

Coffee Origin

The Coffee

Coffee grown worldwide can trace its heritage back centuries to the ancient coffee forests on the Ethiopian plateau. There, legend says the goat herder Kaldi first discovered the potential of these beloved beans.

The story goes that that Kaldi discovered coffee after he noticed that after eating the berries from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not want to sleep at night.

Kaldi reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries and found that it kept him alert through the long hours of evening prayer. The abbot shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and knowledge of the energizing berries began to spread.

As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would bring these beans across the globe.

Here are some Diagrams of the different types off coffee we can prepare on our Mighty Oaks Trailer. We have Espresso, Cafe Latte, Americano, Espresso Macchiato, Cappuccino, Flat White and Mocha. By selecting each coffee, you can see more about the drink and where it gets its name from.
